Head unit 981 - old CDR31

Hi everyone, I'm new to the club and just got myself a 981 Cayman! It currently has the CDR31 head unit, but I’m looking to upgrade to a modern system.

I came across the XTRONS unit, and it looks like a great option since it fills the entire space and has a modern interface. Does anyone have experience with it or any feedback?

Also, I’m trying to figure out whether my car has the BOSE or Burmester sound system—what’s the easiest way to check? Struggling to find clear info on this.

Would really appreciate any advice. Thanks!

I think the aftermarket has moved on from XTRONS - which were essentially cheap android head units in a "nice case" at a premium price - to units from Aliexpress which are the same thing, with better integration and faster processors and in a similar nice case (original looking) for £200-£300. I know of people who had xtrons and dynavin units and have replaced them with the aliexpress units.

That said XTRONS may have updated there range and be more in line with others - but I would consider any of them to be almost disposable / consumable - if the functionality works for you today - great - but don't expect ongoing support and updates. If you find in 3 years time that its bit slow, a bit buggy or the finish is poor then you will probably "go again"

Don't know about burmeister, but if you have BOSE then then it will have a BOSE logo on the speaker grills in the doors.

BTW - You can get the build spec of your car from several sources - i used vinanalytics.com - nicely formatted doc for not much money - and you can see there if the car was spec'ed with Bose etc. - it's a nice piece of paper to have in the file

edit: - also remembered you can get the same info via the "my porsche" app - you have to submit a copy of your v5 once verified there is a section on the app for standard and optional features - nice to have - more effort that vinanalytics for the same info - but it's free.
