Headlamp level adjusters

My headlamp level adjustment doesn't work - dealer tells me they've never seen a 3.2 with a working system. I trust them, but it seems odd not to have a fully functioning car. What's the experience of others here? Is it a technical MOT failure? Thanks for any guidance. Nick

Now this is a problem I know ,considering it's a Porsche they are a cheap and nasty bit of kit .
I finished up by wiring the adjusters to the actual headlight and superglue the adjusting block to the rim case,it works and it seems to last

I assume you are talking about the internal load Level adjustment as opposed to the head light alignment, well mine work, Who is your indie?
Although they are not the must elegant or sophisticated system, it's still should be relatively easy to fix.

Hi Nick
The headlight adjusters are very simple, first remove both headlamps to see if the vacuum pipes are connected. someone may have fitted early lamps with no control units.

Then check that all vacuum pipes are connected /black-with purple tracer.

All the way back to the switch on the dash. The feed for this system comes from the vacuum feed for the brake servo. You should have a storage tank on the inside of the O/S/F wing below the under bonnet lamp.

Very important not to have any vacuum leaks as this will upset the running of the engine. If this
has been leaking for a while have the C/o in the exhaust rechecked. It could be to weak.

Never had a 3.2 that didn't work after I fix it.

Hello All
My headlamp adjusters also work a treat. One of them did stop working but I found that the vacuum pipe to the unit on the headlamp had become kinked and consequently blocked. By repositioning it slightly and gently squeezed to get the kink out it again works fine.
Regards
ALAN

Just to clarify, I'm talking about the dash controlled adjustment for level (to allow for loading). It sounds like I'm unusual in not having a working system.

Another one here with a working system. I would think that the system doesn't need to work to pass an MOT but if it fails at the lowest level the aiming will be too low to pass.

By way of update, the dealer has arranged to have them fixed. Very pleased with that! Thanks for your input everyone. Nick

Nothing a good clean out couldn't sort. Mind you my RH headlamp aim is now too high! Got flashed at last night...
