Headlamp Removal

I read the manual on how to remove the headlamp to change the bulb, and couldn't get the damm headlamp out of the pop up unit. I removed the front plastic suround and removed the four screws, but theres a small black square unit at the back of the lamp out side the pop up unit were the loom plugs into, that doesn't fit through the pop up unit to enable the headlamp to come out! In the manual it just says the pull the lamp out! Am i missing something here? How do i change the bulb?

Just done it recently, I undid the 3 screws that hold the top (painted bit) on and then removed it - this was akward and required a bit of wiggling back and forth but but once off the bulbs could be changed. I am resonably sure this is the method in the drivers handbook,

Cheers Tony, I'll try taking the top painted part off. It says nothing about taking that part off in the manual. What a pain to change a light bulb ah! Almost as bad as changing the air filter!
Thanks again.

Off to the classic car show at Ali Pali. Sunday.

I have done many bulbs and also a complete headlamp unit recently. I'd say DON'T take the lamp out because the adjusters are made of a rare material - breakalite - and they will shatter, then you'll have to order a new set.

Just take out the 3 screws holding on the painted bit, lever it off carefully, watch it doesn't fly off and hit the ground (eh Slim?) and then you can get access to the rubber shroud and the plug on the back of the bulb. The bulb itself is held in with a conventional sprung clip.

Just changed my bulbs today. By far, taking the 'lid' off is the easier way of gaining access to refit a bulb. (Fen, 944Turbo) I found this when threads ago I complained about my lights being not very bright, after breaking the 'breakalite' (is this Fen speak or a recognised phrase and now makes me look very stupid, either way I like it) lugs, I went in through the top.
Anyway, replacement bulbs are from Halfords no. 472sb high performance, super brilliance headlight bulb. Xenon gas technology, up to fifty per cent brighter for greater safety. 12v 60/ 55w. The last couple of sentences were quoted from the pack, I hadn't become suddenly literate!
Yes, I couldn't wait until it got dark and yes they 'do look' brighter' outside my house. Haven't driven with them yet, thought I'd save that thrill for tomorrow. You probably all have that same look on your faces now as my neighbour did as he passed by while fitting them, in the high winds and rain we had today.
