Headlamp Switch - Do I need a new one?

Hi all - I'm a new member with an 84 Cabriolet - host of minor niggles, worst of which is the headlamp / indicator stalk. It flicks onto full beam at the slightest bump in the road and when the indicators return. Any experience? Should I replace the whole stalk? Advise welcome!
thanks
John

Probably but before you buy one check that the wires connected to the relevant fuses are all tight. You can remove the switch and try repairing it but you will be fighting a losing battle. They are expensive new so yo could buy a used one from a breakers for a lot less. Often these switches just burn out, one quick, cheap way of counteracting this is to fit additional relays, as a bonus now you will get a full 12volts at the headlights and improve your lighting, you then have the option of making use of some higher powered bulbs

Greetings
I got my car a couple of years ago and like yourself found that the main/dipped beam switch would do its own thing[]
So I took it off and tweaked the contacts and springs etc. Gave everything a good clean with switch cleaner and its been o.k. ever since [:D] Trouble is you've got to remove the steering wheel to do it properly and while I was at it I overhauled the wiper stalk switch assy. aswell[;)]
So far so good and I do use the car daily!
Good luck
Alex
