Headlamp unit

Does anyone know if the whole headlamp unit can be adjusted on the 944s2?
The drivers side headlamp cover on mine seems to be tight against the wing side and has quite a large gap on the other side between the headlamp cover and the front nose panel.
The operation of the unit is ok but it does look kind of odd when you stand in front of it.
Anyone suffered from this problem before?

the headlight gaps can be notoriously bad. I'm afraid I've no experience of adjusting them ( I've just learned to live with it, until I sort out the vent in my nose panel that is....). someone will have played though!

Hi there,

I have this very problem to but with the passenger side headlamp, I have spent many hours loosening the adjusters (3 bolts on either side of hinge, the outside bolts are accesible from inside the wing you will have to remove the plastic arch liner, the other bolts should be visible under the nose panel). I still can't get mine to line up without them either fouling the bonnet or the bottom of the headlamp bucket. Im beginning to think that the actual hinge mechanism maybe worn out causing the alignment issues ?

Cheers

Dave K.

A pheasant strike put my OSF headlamp out of joint. I adjusted it back in to position by loosening off the three bolts within the front wing, behing the plastic flap in front of the tyre (as mentioned by Dave above). Good luck!

Clean new ones and refreshed wiring usually makes a difference. There used to be a kit available which (I think) added a relay and direct power feed plus some bigger wattage bulbs - John S and Rick have it I think. I also think the kit was intended in the US to have Cibie lenses, but I think they weren't necessary in the UK.

Note if you buy from eBay that the unit needs to have metal lugs on it - the type that are just held in by a bezel (VW Golf etc.) don't fit. Last dealer one I bought was 40-odd notes.

Iceshark? Don't think it's still available, but if not it should be. Along with Flamingeye! [&o]

The old VW's had the same problem. A guy off the Club GTI forum used to sell uprated looms and I guess they would fit as the light bulb plug is the same. I have also seen them for sale on ebay, have a search under vw golf.

It was the Iceshark kit and unfortunately the guy who developed it (Iceshark from Rennlist) died. I think someone else was looking into producing the kit but I don't know if it ever happened.

They are dead easy to make if you know how a relay works.

Four relays, some uprated bulbs, some connectors and a few metres of thick wire and you're away for less than a tenner. Fuse it to be sure - it'll add another quid.

Seriously, it's so easy it's not worth writing instructions. (I have all the bits to do the job in my basement, but have never got 'round to doing it!)

Oli.

Yeah cococola I do need a headlamp (poss two - I will have a close look in the daylight!). Sooner deal with you guys than send a random bloke on eBay a tenner...

I have a smashed headlamp. I have seen plenty on eBay, and they are only about £20 max, but wondered whether there any recomended cheap upgrades worth considering - because, let's be honest, they are prety poor in the performance aspect!

Are you sure that youre looking at the correct lamps (assuming that theyre new)? The reason I ask is that early cars and 924s use a cheap lamp, but later cars require a far more expensive part. If the replacement is for your S2 then the cheap parts wont be suitable.

From what i can gather the later cars use a different lamp due to something to do with the electrical height adjustment.

You should have a roller in the bank of switches in front of the gearstick, normally the extreme RH switch but they are moveable. That ebay picture isn't very detailed but he describes it as a 944/924 lamp so I am guessing it is the earlier non adjustable

Ah! I knew that! Passenger side adjusts but not drivers. Guess I need a new motor.

Are Owners-manuals difficult to come by? Don't understand the heating / air-con at all!!
