Switch the lights on last night and they only popped up half way!

On inspection I found the lense had come off the sealed (not any more) unit and jammed.

I think I will try to silicone the lense back on as the reflector looks like new.

Does this happen often?

What is the best way to keep the lights up but switched off?

If you turn them of fully then the pods should stay up if you back the switch off one click so just the parking lights are on so you can clean them etc. Alternatively you can crank them up manually but if you do then I'd disconnect the battery first because otherwise they will suddenly spring into life. The knob to crank them up is under a rubber cover on the motor to the left front of the engine bay as you look in from the front of the car.

Who made those lenses? Look on the glass face and usually you can tell.

Having the glass lens face fall off from the reflector doesn't happen all that frequently but it can if you have a low quality lens and/or have been running overwatted bulbs with a low quatity lens. I wouldn't bother trying to glue it back on as you are going to have trouble finding a good adhesive that will take the heat. May as well just get a new lens of high quality.

When you are monkeying around working in the headlight buckets make sure you have earth pulled off the battery. The main headlight motor is a powerful little sucker and you will regret it if a finger gets caught. You can break a finger or maybe even get one snipped off.

Once the lights are up just pull the fuse to the motor - its either number 2 or 16 from memory (no, I've not got all the fuse numbers memorised [8|], I had to work on the lights last week)
Disconnecting the battery would obviously be fine, but is more hassle, especially with certain types of alarm.

Thanks guys,

All done with high temp RVT

Also put in some Halfords Xenon bulbs. Will post any improvement.
