Headlamps do not always switch on first time

A problem that has slowly been getting worse. Turning on the headlights on my '03 C2 does not always guarantee the headlights (dip and main beam) will come on - sidelights, fog and spot all OK. Am now having to switch the switch several times and with the headlamps on full beam watch for the blue light on the dash to tell me the lights are on then cancel the high beam. OK at night and easy to spot that lights are not on, but less easy during the day in poor light, mist/fog. Is it the switch? I thiunk I read a previous post which said a Volkswagen switch is the same with a different part number and thus I assume cheaper. Is this true? Also how easy to change the switch myself please. Once on the headlights do stay on although I have had one incident at night on going to dip when it suddenly went dark - interesting at 60+mph,.

Certainly sounds like the switch to me. There's one on eBay right now for a mere £24 - see item 120939351668. Part Number is 996.613.535.00

I bought one earlier this year for my wife's Boxster and, yes, easy to replace.
If I can do it then anyone can.
Only problem was the tight space but managed with a short L-shaped screwdriver I managed to make up.
The only problem we have at the moment is that the alarm doesn't buzz when the lights are left on after the keys have been taken out of ignition switch.
