Headlight beam adjustment

Has anyone had to adjust their headlights?

Driving through mist at 3 am this morning I noticed the offside headlamp beam accentuated by the mist was shining way too high!

I am on a biz trip at the moment so don't have access to my hand book (not sure if there is reference there anyway) but do have plenty of time at my hotel tonight to fiddle. Can anyone throw any light on it ( ha ha totally intentional)

And before anyone suggests the beam height adjuster - done that! it only seems to be the offside unit.

Hi,

if you have one of the modern lamps(not sure about older ones as I recently collected my first 911 from factory) there is a clip that releases the lamp and allows it to pull out. You should then be able to find a switch which can be set from 0 to 1. 0 being flat and 1 having the higher curb side - Not sure if this will help, but is something the Porsche man told me about for driving through Europe at night!!!

cheers

Alex, that is for switching from Left dip (UK) to neutral dip on the litronic headlights. I'm not sure that it will help a lamp that is aimed too high. (It's a great feature though isn't it?!)

For anyone following this thread with a similar problem.

The hand book gives instructions to gain acces to adjusters (3) on the light unit although it also says it should be done by specialists. I needed to get mine down immediately as to stop blinding drivers in the cars in front and oncoming motorists so I adjusted the height to the same level as the opposing headlamp by shining the beams at the garage door and marking the relative postion of each beam.

I was able to achieve the alteration myself although I will need to get the correct alignment done at the next service prior to the MOT.

Having acheived this I started to wonder how it got to this position in the first place as the adjustment needed was quite pronounced and did Stevie Wonder carry out the MOT prior to me buying the car? - Strange!
