Headlight bulb replacement

I'm trying out the Halfords Super Bright to see if it is an improvement over my current bulbs which are a bit dim. I've just replaced the bulbs on my Focus with them and they are significantly brighter than the bulbs that were previously fitted. I'm hoping they are a bit of a halfway house between the standard bulb and a HID upgrade.

I've had a look in my 944 workshop manual and on Clarkes Garage site and am struggling to see how to replace the headlight halogen bulbs. I assume you need to remove the lid of the headlight pod?

Yeah - that's the best way to do it.

I have Osram SilverStars in mine, which made a definate difference. The most recent Autoexpress test actually had the Halfrauds ones at the top of the list, but that seems to be due to "one dodgy bulb" in the Philips Visionplus and Osram sample. Not good though.

Small screw at the rear. then pop up the lights and undo the screw at either side. Lever off the cover..... which doesn't feel like it wants to move.....but it does [:D]

Disconnect battery earth, remove screw from rear of lid and manually turn knob on the end of the headlight motor. Lift headlight to get at the other 2 screws. The rest is obvious.

Those bulbs are slightly brighter, even better if you fit a new headlamp.

Headlamps only about £20 from europart but I had to replace the surround with the old one as I could not fit the lid back on. This might be because turbo lids are different shape but more likely due to the fact that they are beetle parts.

Actually I had the same problem with some for my 924 and they wouldnt fit into the surround because of the sidelight fitting in the reflector. Beetle bits? What, the new one?
