Headlight Bulb

Just changed the LH Headlight (dipped beam) bulb as it was out. Fitted the new one and still out, have pulled the head light unit back out and checked/cleaned the contacts and still out.

Any suggestions, RH headlight is fine. Is there a relay for LH/RH sides that are independant from each other ?

I have had the same problem. It is either the clip that holds the dipped beam bulb in, or the socket that the headlight unit slides into in the inner wing. The clip inside the headlight can get deformed by the heat of the bulb and a bit of re-engineering may get it to fit better. The socket that the headlight unit slides into can get a little out of shape, and the only way to see if it's that is to remove the wheel arch liner and try to push the socket towards the light unit to get a better fit. This is what I had to do and it has worked fine ever since.

Let us know if any of these solutions work.

Thanks Darren,

The clip seems okay so will have to take out the wheel liner and check the socket is full home in the light unit.

My left headlight socket clip was broken when I bought the car so the cable does not detach until I pull the light forward, and squeeze my hand in to detach it. (and have to do same to put it back - awkward but it means I get a firm fit.)

On the right hand side I had same problem as you sometimes, so I've now deliberately pulled it out of the clip and I use same method as I'd learn for the left.

So if you don't use the clips, you don't have to remove the wheel liner.

Perhaps if I'd never started taking them out to investigate and fit HIDs I'd never of had the problem![8|]

Thanks Guys,

Sorted it, had a good look at the socket and noticed some green coloured oxidisation on the connections. Cleaned them up with some WD40 and a small screwdriver and the headlight now works. Have to see how long it lasts before the problem comes back.
