Headlight glass replacement

Hi again,
The nearside headlamp glass on my 993 has a fairly large chip on the rim. Not enough to allow moisture to penentrate (I think) but it is unsightly. I am shortly having a HID upgrade fitted and thought it timely to renew the chipped glass. The replacement glass cost is reasonable but the labour charge is rather steep. Is this a DIY project ?
In anticipation
Richard.

Most definitely a DIY job. Simply pop out the headlight using the lever in the luggage compartment. Once you have the headlight out you need to release some plastic clips and the cover comes of. Clean the dust of the reflector and push on the new glass. I would suggest you do both left and right as the new one will make the other look old. Have alook on pcar.com under the instructions on cleaning the headlight lenses and reflectors.

BTW I paid £108.69 for a pair of genuine headlamp lenses (including VAT and postage) from Jasmine Porschalink on 01 282 69 7171.

sounds a lot but actually isn't....
very easy to change, improves the headlamps (beam, focus and clarity) and cleans up the front look !
in the end a very effective mod !
old headlamp.. car was then almost at 100k miles and was 9 years old....

new headlamp glass....

  • the beam from the headlamp is now crisper
  • focal point of beam that was missing from left headlamp has returned
  • a lot cleaner.. headlamp glass was a bit yellow'ish.. so now I have clean & clear headlamp glass (although why they call it glass when in fact it is plastic!)
  • main headlamp is from the upper section and you can clearly see how much easier it would be for light to penetrate the clear plastic lense instead of the dull old lense
