Headlight protection film

Gentlefolk, Having just had to replace a broken headlight on my daily 944 (again) and noticing the significant improvement in light output from the non road-grit blasted lense, I was wondering about sticking some protection film over them. My concern is that it is designed for the plastic covers of modern headlights, which are a long way away from the hot glass like on a 944. Will it bake on to never be removed again? Has anyone tried it? Any recommendations with regards to what film to use if I try it?

I would have thought it would melt and bake on and perhaps discolour, but I goggled it and I was wrong -

Vinyl film for headlights can sustain up to 100 °C / 212 °F for a short period of time, making it perfect for hot front headlights. The vinyl film will also withstand all weather conditions, UV exposure, gasoline, oil, salt water. Suitable for glass and plastic.

I had wanted to black out the tail light and front lights on my E92 but blacking out the front ones is illegal, I am pretty sure I have seen loads of cars with this done.

There's a product available called Flyeye tint film, its supposed to offer a tinted look to the lights whilst also giving protection against stones etc. I've never fitted or tried it but it may be worth a look?

Thank-you I will look into this, do you by any chance know anyone who has had this done? Does it still let out light? The lights are pretty bright anyway so I'm sure they could shine through all the tiny holes
