Headlight / Sidelight - pop up question..

Here's one I know was raised a few years ago on Titanic but I can't remember the verdict.

In my old '90 S2, if I moved the headlight switch just one turn only the sidelights came on and no popups, move it again and I got the popups up and full lights on.

Now in this '89 model turbo, if I move the headlight switch one turn I get the sidelights lit but also the popups up, move it again and I get normal popup/lights etc.

Not exactly major, more a curiosity and I did like driving with just the sides on in weather that required just sides without having the barn doors open. Can it be simply resolved electronically somewhere?

Also, why I'm on popups, each time they come on, right after they've popped up they gently lower about 2mm as if settling down. A new one on me. Hey Ho.

I've had a square dash Lux, an oval dash Lux and a late-model Turbo "¦ all of them have popped up the headlights when switching on sidelights.

Either keeping them lowered is a specific S2 thing, or your car was unusual.

that has to be a fault.
I've had a late dash 86 Lux and 2x S2's and none of them raised the headlights on side light setting.

Someone has been fiddling with your wiring I should say.[:D]

Ahhh .....should have read Jim's post before I posted. Never come across that before

Hold on a minute "¦ is this something that could be changed simply by swapping relays between models of car?

I mean "¦ if I wanted my lights to stay down when the switch is on position one, could I just pop an S2 relay in there, remove the dip/dip control box, and job done?

Poprock - all in the post Jim linked to.. Very useful. Thanks Jim! I should have just done a search.

Another mod added to the list..

Yeah, I see from that old thread that you need to disconnect the dip/dip box and remove the relay then bridge the pins in a set fashion. I'm just wondering whether a neater solution than wiring pins by hand would be to get a relay from one of the older or newer models which didn't have the dim/dip feature? I don't see that mentioned "¦ or am I missing it somewhere?

I did this mod today, took about 30mins. Most fiddly part was making up my 4 wires. All works though, a great top tip! Thanks
