Headlight upgrade options

Hi

I thought I'd sorted the poor headlights years ago by upgrading to HIDs. I had some on my 3.2 that never baulked. I transferred them to my firrst 993 and they were fine. Foolishly when I swapped to this 993 I thought I'd get some new ones as the old ones were getting on a bit. I got some from Carnewal, but one of the ballasts went more or less ikmmediately. Gert sent a replacement but that never worked terribly well - would go off after 10 secs, but worked if I turned the lights off and on again. A few weekls back however that light just died, would come on for 5 mins then go off and by the time i got home it had just died.

I have to drive along some dodgy country roads at night, and the stock bulbs now on just aren't good enough.

I am told that HIDs are all made in China now and you just can't get reliable ones. What options are there now? Are there any LED bulbs like the Cree foglight ones that are good enough for main beam (not full beam)? I know they aren't going to be as good as HIDs but any improvement will be a bonus

TIA

I can only agree 100% with Tom's and Andy's recommendation. And you get a matching set of LED side-lights.

Such an elegant solution - it all fits inside the regular light-pod, no drilling, no flying leads (retains standard connection for control and power). Superb.

He also fixed the broken OBC back-light in my rev-counter.

Tore is a very clever, nice chap.
