Headlight Wiring Diagram

Hi,

I have removed my headlights, prior to my trip to Le Mans, to switch the lights over to "Continental" mode (not that I expect to be driving in the dark, but I thought I would see how it was done...)

Now the drivers side headlight is not working at all - no dip or main beam - does anyone have a wiring diagram for headlamp socket, just so that I can check that power is reaching the light?

Cheers

Pete

Don't worry about the wiring yet. Take the headlamp out and check both sets of contacts are clean. Then try it back in. You often find that there's muck on the connections, or indeed that although you thing it's back in properly, it isn't and the connections haven't quite made.

Thanks

When you say the contacts - which parts are these, I can see the plug and socket arrangement, is this the only connection, or is there another one?

Cheers

The plug and socket are the only connections, but there can be a certain amount of play in them. I'm speaking from experience that making the connection can be really annoying and sometimes takes a few attempts. If you've only removed the lights to change the settings, there shouldn't be any reason for a wiring fault to have developed. Whilst I'm not discounting blown bulbs, etc, I'd stake a bet that it's merely a connection issue.

Hi,

Thanks - I'll give the connnections a clean - good to know that I am not the first person to be afflicted with this [:)]

Hi Maurice

Sounds likely - I've tried several times now, and cannot feel the socket mating behind the light. The headlight unit just goes into the wing with little resistance, although it sits completely flush when it is in

How much hassle is it to remove the wheel liner? - I need to drive to France on Wednesday, and have a pretty full calander before then, but I might be able to get a local guy to do it for me

The wheel liner is an easy removal. Take the wheel off to give some room and you'll see, (from memory), three screws at the top where the two liner halves meet, three or four fixings running vertical near the inner wing and a couple of screws vertical near the outer wing. Once they're all removed, the liner will pull out. It's easier to pull it from the inner wing side, because it has a lip to the outside that mates with the inside of the outer wing.

This happens to me every time I go abroad.

I squirt some WD40 into the connector - this has sorted it on every occasion !!

Enjoy Le Mans - I'm driving down to the Classic Le Mans this year for a change.

I have the same problem.

Rather than removing the wheel liner I unclip socket. Mine has just enough play to mate it with the headlight correctly before sliding the headlight in as normal.
