Headlights and servicing

I have just bought a 1998 Carrera, and I have noticed that the headlights aren't very good!! Has anyone else experienced this, and if so what replacement bulbs would you suggest? I know that later models had 'litronic' lights - is this the same as Xenon?
Also, I will be looking for a good independent for servicing - I live in North Yorkshire close to the town of Malton, so York/Leeds/Hull are all within a reaonable drive.

Thanks!!

yep
litronics are xenons and MUCH better!!i had aftermarket xenons fitted for around £400.bulbs alone will increase luminosity by about 10-15% xenons by 300%!!!
but bulbs are £15-£30!!
you get what you pay for imo

Welcome Douglas!!

Quite a few of us have fitted HID kits. You can get them for less than £150 from places like http://www.aceparts.com/. If you don't want to tackle this sort of project, try the PIAA Super White bulbs. I used them before fitting HIDs, and they were much better than standard. Litronics were an option on all 996 Carreras.

How about Specialist Cars of Malton? I have no experience of them, but you won't find a Porsche specialist closer than that. http://www.specialistcarsltd.co.uk/

I got my xenons from ace parts last month , they are 120 quid for 996. It's a must IMO as standard lights are terrible.

Try Specialist Cars as previous correspondent recommends. My experience with them is first class.

Another thumbs up for Alan of Aceparts.com, where I got my kit from in December. 125 for H7 HID converstion. Nice kit to fit and good to buy from another Porsche 911 enthusiast too (even if he does drive an aircooled, turbo charged one!).

Andrew,

Thanks for your reply. I have heard mixed reports about Specialist Cars for servicing, mainly that they are expensive! What are the typical costs for servicing?

Thanks

Thanks Richard. Just ordered a pair of Super White bulbs from Aceparts for £7.99 including delivery!!

Have compared their tariff with the others that are relatively local and believe that they are competitive.

Non tariff work is £75 p.h. if that gives you a feel for it.

One big plus for you is that they are close at hand and you don't have to spend a day in, say, Leeds waiting for your car to be ready.

Mail me direct if you want any further info.

A.
