Ok peoples dipped beam seams to be a bit dim like its only getting 6volts and the main beam is as normal, somebody says the car has something like a soft start any ideas
Paul

What year is the car? Late 3.2s have a strange Euro lighting circuit that provides for a lighting mode that uses the H4 bulbs but in what is a dimmer mode than dipped beam. This mode is enabled when the light switch is half on with the ignition on. You shouldn't otherwise see it. If you see it when you're expecting the dipped beams you might have a dodgy column switch.

Best mod I ever made to mine was to fit a J West relay kit. This takes all the load from the column switch and provides full power to bulbs. Not only improves lights but protects the column switch from burning out.
google the relays from USA but easiest mod ever, comes with all wiring precut and relays mounted

As phelix says 'dim dip' is activated on the sidelight setting of the light switch with the ignition on. The normal dipped headlights should come on at the next pull of the switch. I like dim dip, but to provide this the additional light power is dumped in the control box. I was advised to disconnect the cabling from the box due to overheating risks and now forgo my dim dip. The control box is under the passenger foot board and simply pull the plug out of the control box and voila. Try this and see if your dip power improves?
I have also fitted relays in the headlight dip and main circuits about a year ago, it improved output and would now allow higher output bulbs to be fitted too. Just like GeoffB mentions, it protects the stalk switch contacts and you cut out the associated voltage drop across the switch cabling and contacts. I bought fused relays in the UK from the web and wired them up from a diagram off the web too. The J West kit would be quicker, easier to install and probably a bit neater.

Alongside the headlight relay, there are now some stunning LED headlight bulbs that can fit a standard set up and require no extra wiring, would want the relay kit in first though.

There are a couple of guys in our Region with them and they are amazing, and cheap too. Will fish out the link.

On reading this post I have ordered a this J West upgrade kit as my lights are very poor compared with modern cars. I hope it's as easy to fit as you all say ?

If you install the relay kit and/or LED bulbs best to disconnect the dim dipped system, either at its controller or at the fuse panel.

Just had 65th birthday frighnig Jo got a local artist to do a paintng of the car in water colour brill and took me into the 21st century with aTablet (they are complecated) sothis is my 1st attempt (where the he'll is spell checker)

Interesting this. You learn things all the time. I have just come across this post and have already ordered the J West relays. Seemed quite reasonable until the postage was added ! Hope they work...
Now can anyone tell me where the LED Headlight Bulbs are available, please.
Am also checking that this Forum will at last acknowledge me as a PCGB member - after 2 years. Am now assured by The Office that I should be OK.
Now, how do I get the photo I downloaded to show up under my name on the Forums.
Cheers - and Happy Christmas.

Seasons' Greetings Dashmore,
Perhaps I shouldn't suggest this on this forum but the IB forum has several threads on LED lights which may be of interest to you.
