Headlights & Side Lights....Advice needed !

Guest

New member
Hi......I have a 1996 911......993 Carrera S. The headlights have a lot gone very dull & grubby inside the actual lighting unit & there is a lot of dust. The side indicators below the bumper are also dull. I would be obliged if any members could :

(1) Make sussgestions on whether I should just get new light units & new bulbs ? Consider HID unit ? Or have them cleaned & fitted with new halogen bulbs as I found on this site :

http://p-car.com/diy/headlight/

(2) Same advise on side indicators aswell.

Also were is the best place to buy above items. Any pointers would be very much appreciated.

Ace parts who sell on ebay, are pretty reasonable, price wise. £9.95 for the HID's, and £12.99 for some LED side lights.
Ive not made my mind up about the LED's yet,(A bit chavy maybe'). But side lights are included in the HID set.
Next step for me is to replace the glass on the head lights and side lights. The bulbs do brighten up the road though ,and are money well spent.

[:D] add me to the group buy list!

Seriously Ken, I cleaned my headlights & they look much better now. Be very careful, as Maurice says - the silver reflective material is very soft & will scratch/flake off easily.

I would definitely do the conversion to HIDs if you are using the car every day. If you stick with halogen, then do upgade to "xenon" bulbs but I didn't notice any difference in the beam intensity on the road at night. Remember not to touch the bulbs too (either hot or cold)! I cleaned out my fog lights - made no difference to slight discolouration, because it's the plastic housing which goes dull rather than the lens. Are your side indicators clear? If so, should be nice and clear. If not, why not do the conversion - they look great with some 993 colours.

Hope this helps [;)]

Group buy at that price !! Had good feedback on the Ace HID Conversion kits, and their new miniature unit sounds promising ... but I think £199.95 would be closer ...

Thoroughly recommend carefull headlight cleaning regardless - standard, higher grade bulbs or HID conversions will all benefit significantly. IMHO it is a task best done every couple of years ..

cheers, Maurice [:D]

They are not true hid's and do not have ignition control units,(Sorry should have stated this fact) but they are still beter than the ones I did have.and they are £9.95[;)]
Correct me if im wrong all turbo's had litronics as standard yes, and mine would have been system type 2.1.
there are no control units in mine. Has anybody out there had there litronics stolen?

I've got some LED 1W replacement sidelights to put in this weekend, and some brake/rear light 24bulb LEDs winging their way from Aceparts. A bit more expensive than the standard bulbs from Halfords but I get through a pair of rear bulbs a year, so the LEDS should cost less in the long run.

I have the Aceparts HID conversion and it's £125 well spent (Alan gives a discount if you mention this forum) and would thoroughly recommend it.
