Headlights stuck half way up

Hi there,

I'm posting this on behalf of my Dad who owns an '83 924lux, last week the headlights on his car stopped half way up(or down :p). If you try and wind them down using the turner they pop back up, but only half way - even with the light switch off! Is this a sign of the motor going or is it something else?

My guess is the motor and everything is ok, but the little crank on the end of the output arm has slipped round as the splines are quite tiny. Loosen the pinch bolt and set the headlights to level out the panels in the off position. In the raised position there is a stop that acts on the triangular bracket and limits the upward movement to a positive stop, the remaining travel accommodated by the tension in the two big springs, and look not a single 944 in sight.

I have a similar issue to this in that mine won't pop up reliably, they stop about half way up. Twisting the knob a few turns seems to kick start the motor again and they then continue OK. They seem to go down without issue. Any help is appreciated....

I don't suppose the bonnet release cable is caught round the headlight mechanism by any chance? mine was, when i tried to wind them down manually they went back up. I found the cable was jammed, released it and all was ok with the world again.
Just an idea

Hi, thanks. I had a look, but that is not the problem.

I can make them work properly by moving the motor slightly, when they are stuck. They seem to go up OK now, but stop on the way down. Then move the motor to the left and the carry on going down. I think that the mechanism must be a bit stiff somewhere.
