Came home this evening and my headlights wont go down when i switch them off . []
The lights are working fine - main , dip etc just dont want to tuck themselves away for the night .
Is this likely to be just a fuse / relay issue ?
If so - which one and where ?

Tom there is a relay on the side of the lift motor (there is a thumb wheel on top of the motor for manual operation - ignition must be off) & on the underside of your fuse box lid is a list of which fuse does what.

I had this trouble a lot with my early 1985 model. It was due to a poor connection in the relay / plug on the motor. If you wiggle the relay box a little I expect it will go down. Try cleaning the contacts in both the plug (I used a tiny flat Swiss file ground thinner on just one side) to get into the female conns. Give the relay a quick once over with a small bronze brush.

If the relay turns out to be shot you can get a replacement from a decent motor factors (not Halfords) for about £6 as opposed to £25 or so that Porsche quoted me. You'll need to take the relay in so you get the correct one.

Have you fitted the ultra rare "Welcome Home" option as available on the current model BMWs & VWs that leaves the lights on for a short time so you can see your way as you walk up the drive to your door. [:D]

Have you checked the connection below the washer bottle, my bottle dropped and was pressing up against the connections making my headlights not work?
