Headlights

It's very common I'm afraid.

Have you had the recall done that is supposed to fix this?

Recall W424- New vents for headlights, supposed to correct condensation issue.

Thanks.
It has been back twice I think it may be cured, but won't really know until the conditions are right to test them. What did give me a shock was when replacing a front indicator bulb and seeing that apart from the headlight cage being broken and loose instead of a new seal it had had silicon slapped all around it.

I had a similar thing with the front passenger floor getting soaked. They had it 5 days apparently playing hoses on it and told me there was nothing wrong. As you know we had a dry summer and I dont always check but a month or so ago it was really really wet.The OPC said it is out of warranty you will have to pay.Eventually they agreed to do it.It was a dashboard out job but when it was returned the aircon blows cold one side and hot on the other and the computer tells me something is wrong with the airbags. So back in again on the 8th.On its 2 year service another OPC forgot to change the brake fluid Who should pay for that if it has to go in again.

That is called "consequential loss" in legal jargon I think. In other words you pay for the work missed first time round (assuming you were not charged then) and suffer the inconveniance. That happened to me a long time ago, made a fuss and the bill was discounted for labour. Not all OPC's are the same.

Not to mention the petrol getting the car to and fro each time - that's a consequential loss from my side![]

My headlamps have always misted up a bit - never really thought about it as they always clear when the engine warms them through or they dry up unaided.

I suppose it can't be good for them in the long run.

As your RS I suppose I should check and get a propoer answer for you good folks. Let me see what I can do.

Thanks Lazza,
My real problem occurs at 1500 m above sea level when I visit one of my sons at Meribel.
You cannot see anything. I was there a week ago and I dont think they steamed up.but we do not have winter conditions yet..But ,but ,but, I carried on to Geneva to visit an old pal and when I left it was throwing it down and I really could not see where I weas going..Thinking about it maybe the lights were naff. I got fed up with being overtaken by 206's and tucked in behind lorries till i got to Dijon .Once I could see where I was going I do not think many cars passed me.Ps should I swap it for a Range Rover Sport??

Are your lights Bi-Xenon or just regular H7 variety like mine?

I find (like on our old Boxster) that the normal beam is quite dull and I often use the full beam when I wouldn't on non-Porsche models.

The new Boxster has Bi-Xenon and these are much better. I'll get them on my next Cayenne.

BTW my lights steam up on the drive on damp days, let alone when it rains!

Lazza

Yes I have the standard H7 lights.but they do not just mist up they look as if the car just came out of a river.I dont think I will do any wading in it I will save that for the Landy.By the way I am getting 20 plus out of it.

Kevin,

It seems that there is a mod pack as I think mark mentioned earlier (not technically a recall).

The mod replaces the seals around the lamps and introduces more drainage.

If you let me know your VIN number then I can get it checked to see if your car is due the mod pack.

Lazza

I was the first on the register and won the prize so you should have it there if not will send it to you tomorrow if it stops raining. I thought it was a bit naff to just slap silicon sealant all around them

at this moment in time Lazza dosn't have any of the register records so i am afraid he has none of your details. so if you could e-mail them to him it would speed things up

cayenne@porscheclubgb.com thanks

It's a common problem make sure you tighten the locking nut fully when re inserted, they are working loose at the moment with the movement of the car and loosing contact next time just push the lens hard inward instead of taking the light right out then tighten fully, also check the nut is open before pushing home it may the lens is not going home fully if the nut is to tight to start with.

Thanks for your response Shogun. Will try to push home tightly. Do Porsche have a fix for this?
