Headlining

Hi guys,

The headlining is coming away at the rear.

Couple of questions really. I spoke to Porsche Exeter and the headlining is a discontinued part. So I assume I will have to get one either a) made by a trimmer or b) would there be a pattern part?

If I got one made I want it done in black Alcantara. Do you think its a task one could undertake on a weekend? or best to get it to a good trimmer?

cheers

I got my headlining material from here http://www.fabricuk.com/ although it wasn't alcantara.

I took the old headling off and used it as a template to cut the new material to shape. I used double sided tape and contact adhesive to put the new lining in place. A good tip is to have several bulldog clips to hold it in place while you stick it, as unless you are an octopus you will not have enough hands.. If your car has a sunroof the job is not too bad, if you don't have a sunroof you will have to get a headlining made as it has bracing rods stitched into the material.

Thanks Jim,

Looks like a project I will take on then. Yes I do have the sunroof and I am going to replace he sunroof seal while there.

FYI - Exeter porsche want £76 for the seal.

The price for 3.0 mtr of Black Alcanatara rolled full width on a tube is £172.73 comes from Glen Revis (uk importer). Do you think that would be sufficient? any left over and Im going to trim up some other parts of the headlining. I think it will bring the interior up to date and look classy.

Cheers

The perforated vinyl that I used came on a roll 1.4m wide and I ordered a 2m length which was more than enough. Cost me £20. I must admit its not one of my finest jobs but way better than the old brown headlining. The job is made easier because of the front and rear roof panels which cover the ends of the headlining so you don't have to be too accurate. Here's a link which may be of some use.

Thanks again Jim. That guide and the others on that site are very helpful indeed.

I will try and take some photos and pop them up when I get round to it.

Cheers
