heat and spoiler question

patch

New member
Hiya,

My rear nearside wing gets very hot to the touch (hotter than offside) would that be normal do you think? Unlike in my old 996 I can't see if the spoiler is up in my rear view mirror, is there any way of knowing. My thought being, if it isn't up perhaps it's not cooling properly. Also I have a sports exhaust and wonder if that makes any difference at all.

Tiny detailing question - the black strip at the front edge of the bonnet has light white smears that could be paint or just fading - any restoring tips?

Am thoroughly enjoying this new drive !!

All the best

Nearside is where the cat sits....or bypass pipe so the wing may get warm. On the drivers side (right hand drive) there is the oil tank in front of the rear tyre. This makes that wing heat quite a bit. Also the front drivers side gets warm too because that's where the oil cooler sits.

All sounds pretty normal to me

Also there is a light on the clock that goes out when over 5 or so mph that monitors spoiler. I can see mine go up and down.....

If your that worried about it get someone to follow you to see if it's working. I assume it works from the override switch on the inside???

+1 on what Tim said. I'm surprised you can't see the spoiler when it's up though - I have always been aware of mine but, being bright yellow it might be a bit more obvious. In theory, if the spoiler doesn't come up at the correct speed you should get a warning light on the dash but it's not foolproof since it's been known for people to remove warning bulbs!! Just check with the switch that it goes up and down for a starter.

On the cleaning of the trim around the front, you'll find that some smooth peanut butter will do the trick!! Seriously, it works.

love the peanut idea!

spoiler goes up and down on the switch ok - possibly the rear brakelight 'bar' obscures my view... I'll get me wife to follow me, not too close though...

by the way, which fuel do you all tend use? The feeling from my vendor was that 95 is just fine but stick to Shell for example.

I'm not generally known for my polishing prowess but you can bring back the black shine to the rubber trim using Turtle Wax 'Black in flash'. It's a silicone based cleaner and easily obtainable at Halfords.

Unlike the peanut butter, you shouldn't lick your fingers afterwards though [:'(]
