Heat shield question

I've got some RSR silencers coming from Gert at Carnewal this week. I had a look at the old boxes on the car & the heat shields are loose around the silencer inlet pipes.

Does anyone know if these heat shields can be replaced without taking the bumper off?

Any advice on loosening those rusty clamp bolts, did anyone get a spanner on both ends or is it a grinder job?

Also, anyone changed the bumper stays, any advice? Thanks in anticipation!

After a v brief attempt at undoing the bolts on the exhaust clamps I gave up and used a hacksaw to cut through the shank of the bolts - I didn't want to use an angle grinder on them because if not wanting to damage the clamps.

Not sure which heat shields you are referring to, but the 'elbow' shaped ones hidden up in each corner are attached to the silencer so they will come out with the old silencers when you take them out.

Cheers AlexG, that's what I hoped to hear. Might get a small Dremel-type (read Black & Decker) tool to attack these bolts. The heads of the bolts look very small & hard to remove on my 1994 system.

A hacksaw or dremel type tool is the quickest and easiest way to get the old bolts off.. If you try loosening them you will invariably break them or round them anyway.

The heatshields bolt directly onto the silencers so you can fit these to the new RSRs before offering them up to the car. Gert at Carnewal can supply the heat shields as well as new nuts and bolts.

Cheers PP. It's amazing that the heat shields are just sitting there, vibrating away when driving the car and totally loose. I would have thought they would have fallen out by now.

Off to the local DIY shop for some stainless bolts to keep them on the new RSRs I think.
