Heat Shields

Interesting piece on Heat Shields in the Boxster Register section of this month's Porsche Post - and I wish I had seen it a month ago. I had the self same rattling noise with a cold engine and mentioned it when the car was last serviced at JZ Machtech.

Their answer was cut them off, you won't notice the difference without them. So that is what they did. I still have a lingering doubt about this as you would have thought they were originally put there for reason.

Anyone else any thoughts on this ?

I would not think Porsche fitted them if they were not needed but I guess it depends on what the ambient temperatures are as to how much heat gets radiated from them. For example in Dubai it would be more than say Iceland. It may be JZ think the radiated heat in UK is not enough to heat up the bodywork above them enough to cause a problem. or maybe they are fitted to stop the heat melting some underseal.... Just a couple of thoughts as I am no expert.
