i have just purchased a 964 targa.just been out for a spin and the heat from under the drivers dash is very hot when the car has warmed up.is this normal?

Andy,

A common problem with the 964 (and earlier 911s) is that the cardboard-like hose which connects the pipes from the door sills into the blowers breaks up creating an ever larger hole for the hot air to escape. There is one each side so it will depend on whose feet gets toasted. The tubes themselves are only around £8 each from an OPC but they are a bit of a pain to fit since you have to wrestle with it within the tight confines of the footwell.

Hope that helps.

Regards

Dave

If you can change the temperature with the control knob on the dash then Computamedic is correct as usual.

However if you can't adjust the temperature then you probably have a servo which has seized.

I had my drivers one which was seized and after about an hour I had removed it, stripped it and had it working.

I'll take no credit for the great work that Roly Baldwin has done or the link on the http://www.porsche964.co.uk/ site (which is great) that has step by step instructions on how to repair them.

Only one thing to emphasize though, even if your contacts and potentiometer need a clean (as mine did) "" run the motor anyway. I reassembled mine only to find that it was not fixed but after running the motor it was fine.

Good luck (not that you will need it)[;)]
