Heated rear screen

Since winter is now upon us (horrible stuff unless it's 6 ft of snow and we can go skiing) I have had to use my heated rear screen but have noticed that several of the heater lines don't seem to be working. Rather than change the whole glass I have heard about metalic strips/paint that can be used to mend any line braekage, anyone had any experience in this area?

This is my first year/winter since acquiring my life long porsche ownership dream and boy I'm on cloud nine - great purist porsche car, just wondeful

I used some paint-on element on my 1978 Chrysler Alpine (oooeerr) and it worked fine. Much cheaper than a rear screen...

Incidentally, I know where there is a 911 rear screen for sale if you would like this option

Rgds

Cheers for the info, I'll try the paint first, otherwise I may give you as buzz

Off to Halfords now...................

As it is your first 911, do you know that the switch is a dual action switch (for some reason[&:] ). You pull the switch for some of the lines and twist it to the right for the rest of the lines in the screen.
Hope this is of some help. [;)]

matt811,

I have an 86 Coupe and the heated rear screen operation is via a 'button' located down on the centre console, next to the hazard warning lights. I can only appear to push this, not pull and twist.

Do you have a different setup to me ?

I had an 85 3.2 Carrera until recently and it had a quick-clear option, which operated on only the middle of the screen. The top and bottom 2 or 3 elements didn't engage. But to clear the whole screen a bit slower all the elements engaged. This was achieved by the dual action switch that Matt mentioned above.

Hi Matt, thanks for the info, that is news to me, I'll try it over the weekend when I take it out of the garage

Cheers

Highfield,
my heated rear window switch is a big round button on the dash, next to the fog light switch. It operates as Malcolm describes. Maybe they changed the switch position on later models? I have an 85 coupe.

Matt.

Hi Ian, I have the same button as you on the centre consol next to the hazard lights switch, it only pushes in and out no twist movement at all.

I can only assume we have a different set up as detailed another member......back to the paint for me

Regards

I was a bit purturbed that there may have been a control on the mish-mash of a dashboard that I may not have been aware of!!!

Rushing out to the garage last night, I was met by a switch that mearly pulls out and does not twist.[:(]

I have a 1987 3.2 Carerra Supersport........

Thankfully though, all the elements work!
