heated rear window switch

hi again,

could someone please tell me how to work my heated rear window control switch because I cannot fathom it out

cheers for any help!!!!!!!!!!!!!

John

For coupes it's a one position pull switch for Targas a two position. Just gently pull it towards you. The switche's face should be illuminated too. If it doesn't work the fuse and relay are in the engine compartment under the black panel on the left.

Hi John

You have accidentally put up a second new post on the same topic- it's easy to do when you are getting used to posting on the forum. If you go back to Bones' reply to your first post you can reply to it there (just cut and past your second post) so that people can follow it and help you.

I am a bit confused by your second post. Do you have a coupe or a targa? For a coupe the control switch for the heated rear window should just pull out 1 click and illuminate. As far as I've noticed mine does not turn it just pulls out once.

According to Bone's the targa has 2 positions but I have no experience of that.

Regards

Jerry

My car is a '78 Jerry , yours may be different. In mine the heater element is in two stages 150 watts and 300 watts. The switch latches mid way out and then extends fully for full demisting.

All SCs are different as all 911s are year to year so refer to the year of your car when asking questions.

cheers jerry, its a 911sc,it definitly pulls out,but the light goes out.and it does turn clockwise slightly, one clicck in either position.i dont really know what i am looking for because its my firsr one thanks john

Just a thought... the way you describe the switch pulling out AND rotating one click clockwise sounds exactly like the fog lamp switch! Maybe someone in a previous life has accidentally swapped the 'knobs' with the icons on.

Do you have foglamps? Turn the headlamps on, pull your switch and the rear f/lamps will light up. If you rotate the switch the front fog lamps will light.

If you're sure it's the rear window heater switch can we assume someone has changed the switch assembly at some point and replaced it with a foglamp switch assembly?

Cheers,
Rich

Ah, it all becomes clear - I wondered why my switch had two pull settings, once again the font of knowledge on the forum sheds light on another of lifes mysterys - Cheers Bones.
