Heated Seats

Bought a super 1994 993 Cabrio last Nov. At the time heated seats didn't seem too important but in hindsight.... The car has grey interior with leather seats with electric adjustment. I'm assuming I need to find a set of heated seats out of a written off car, can anyone recommend where I start and likely cost..?

I bought a full set of seats (front and rear) for my 944 a year or so ago. The front seats were heated electric sport seats (with the deeper kidney supports), and are identical to the 911 seat for mountings, electrical connections, etc.

I got them from eBay (seller jazy111 - no, I'm not affiliated) for about £450 for the lot, delivered. The seats were grubby and had a small amount of damage, so I spent another £150 having the leather patched, cleaned, refurbished and redyed so they looked like new. Well worth doing, and I may look to change the seats in the 993 at some point.

Cheers/John

Hi Richard

Thats interesting - any experience with these products?

I'm having some work on the seats done by Southbound, so it might be an opportune time

I've got the early 993 Sports seats in my cab, and I can imagine the chances of finding heated versions at a breakers would be remote

Sorry Pete - no personal experience at all - someone on Renntech pointed them out, but they look like a fairly professional outfit from their web site, and with the dollar being so weak at the moment they look like a good buy.

I would suggest that using an aftermarket kit is going to be easier and cheaperthan trying to source second hand seats . If your having work done on the seats that involves removing the trim cover then adding the aftermarket heater pads is relatively straightforward. You may want to ask Southbond if they have a recommended source.

Then it's a case of getting them wired up correctly. They can draw quite a large amount of current so it is important that the correct gauge of wire, correct fuse is used etc.

Pete,

i had my 993 coupe refurb'd at Southbound just before Xmas, and i had them convert my Sports seats to have heating. It works really well, and they put the 2 little control buttons either side of the handbrake. There are 3 settings Off/ level1/level2. It works really well and it wasnt that expensive.

If you are having them do some work to your car, ask them about the heated seats. i love them!!

HTH!

I think that's the best option, as I've never seen an early UK 993 for sale with heated sports seats. "Sports seats" yes, but "Heated sports seats" no. So you'd be looking for ever to find any at a breaker in the UK. Just not part of the C16 option pack. Of course I'm always happy to be proved wrong ??

I'll definitely look into it

I like the sports seats in my car, but heat would be a bonus, especially for a cab

I've not seen the aftermarket option before, but if people have had good experiences with it, and Southbound can do the work to a good standard (and I've only heard good things about them) It would seem to be the way forward

Anyone got a photograph of the switches for the Porsche heated seat options for a 993?

Cheers - and thanks for all the info

They are on the side of the seat with the other controls. From a practical point of view they would be better somewhere you could see them!

In solving a recent problem with my electric seat adjusters see this thread,

I noticed that within the plug half that is connected to the loom there is a spare wire which is not used in my car, I do not have heated seats. The only point that comes to my mind is that the guage of this wire is quite thin and not what I would have expected for seat heating. If not for heated seats then I don't know what it would be for.

Not that helpful I am afraid, but if the spare wire is not for seat heating, then I would have to conclude that the standard loom does not include the required wiring.

Tho' why you want heated seats is beyond me .. I had them as standard on a Z3 M Roadster ([:'(]), only tried them once in two years .. and I used to drive it in winter with the roof off ... [&:] .. I've still got the sheepskin hat .. [8D]

cheers, Maurice [:D]

Agree with Maurice. Took my 993 in for service recently and was loaned a Cayenne. Five minutes down the road my bum was on fire and had to make and emergency stop. Found someone had left the drivers seat at full heat. [] The heated steering wheel was quite nice in the morning though.[:)]
