Heater A/C Control Panel

Chaps,

Strange question maybe, but does anyone know if the a/c square switches mounted within the dash mounted heater control panel used in 964's are used by any other manufacturer...VAG perhaps ? It's just that the two square buttons have completely worn through to white and is a bit of an eye sore. The unit works fine but this is just for appearance sake. I just wanted to avoid replacing the whole unit if possible. Any pointers gratefully received !

Cheers, Nick.

Are any of these what you're looking for?

[FONT=verdana, geneva"]Good find Steve. Also, with full A/C panel the recirculating air and demister are both 'half' buttons. These I believe (like probably the others too) are also the same as the 944 - that's where a couple of my replacements came from.

Thanks for your replies.

I too spotted these on Ebay......and at first thought i'd cracked it ! Replacement half switches are still available, albeit currently on back order, yet cost a small fortune considering all they are......just plastic switches.
Think i'll try and find an a/c equipped 944 thats being broken......

Thanks any way.

Nick.

Yes, Nick as you've found out, small parts on the older cars don't come cheap. Unfortunately, ebayers have cottoned on to this and there aren't so many bargains these days. And sometimes when you think you've bagged an ebay bargain for a 964 part, it ends up being a load of rubbish when it arrives. [] These days I tend to say "sod the cost" and buy a part direct from my local Porsche centre because I know that the quality will be guaranteed.

Sorry for the ramble! [:D]

[FONT=verdana, geneva"]Tend to agree. I've learnt to check with OPC parts dept for a price first before assuming ebay was the place. Quite a few times it's been cheaper buying brand new from them - this I've found especially on plastic trim/cover items.

Managed to find a pre owned 968 A/C panel from the states. Still far less for this complete panel with all switches than the cost of two individual half switches which are on back order Germany.
I quite agree with you both in that our OPC's can often be reasuringly good value when sometimes you least expect it.
I've just imported this lovely C2 from Northen Ireland and I just can't wait for it to arrive ! I flew out last week to sort out the deal and inspect the car, and i'm just going through my mental list of things to order initially, to start the process of bringing her back to form.

Cheers for now, Nick.

Looks like NI is the hot place to find C2s at the moment....I met ras62 (robert) at Oulton Park yesterday who had just bought a lovely guards red C2 from there aswell. [:)]
