Hi - Could anybody tell me where the heater resistor (or Ballast resistor) is sittuated and the chepest supplier.

Thanks!!

Its under the plastic rain guard at the top of the bulkhead (lift bonnet, then rubber seal, then plastic guard).

a breakers would be cheapest.

Beware though. Mine has problems intermittently and I got one from a breakers and it doesn't visually look like it is in the freshest of conditions so I havn't fitted it yet. I don't get the feeling that it is significantly far away from failure itself. I've been trying to suss out how it works to see if I can rig something up. It isn't a simple resistor pack. It does consist of four resistors but they seem to be connected by moving contacts. I can't see how these contacts work. They don't look like they are magnetic reed switches. They could be bi-metal and operted by heat, but I cannot see how the heat would be generated apart from maybe the resistors themselves. It's a strange device.

It looked to me like the resistor coils (just coils of wire on my car) were seperated by a ceramic coating and this coating had broken down causing shorts between the coils, hence none of the positions work except full. I'm wondering if some insulating paint or paste could be applied to the coils to get them working again.- any ideas? Exhaust paste??

I had the same problem a while ago and as John states the ceramic coating on the resistor coils appeared to have broken down. I carefully stripped/cleaned this off and ensured the wires were well spaced then refitted. The problem has gone away and the car has not caught fire yet either!!!!
