Heater controls confusion. Do all Boxster heaters consoles have a mind of their own??

Hi,

I have a UK 1997 Boxster. In to my 3rd week of ownership now.

I have the original owners handbook and I've read the instructions.

However, the heater console seems to have a mind of its own which doesnt seem to be mentioned in the manual - and I cant seem to work out what rules it uses to perform its actions. Sometime I look down and its turned the fan off. Sometimes it seems to randomly close a vent I asked it to open (i.e. windscreen). It turned re-circ off by itslelf this morning.

I think one of the problems is it normally catches me out whilst I'm driving and I havent sat with it to see how it really works yet.

Does anyone have any rules written down about how this bit of kit works?

The air con will not operate at low external temperatures, so i can understand seeing or not seeing the air con asterisk symbol - it saves freezing the iunside of the windscreen
