hi all

my car has been stood for about 18 months with me doing the odd job on it and it is quite damp inside

Today i started her up to warm the engine up but after a couple of minutes i saw steam or was it smoke rising up from inside the engine bay when i had a look it was coming from around the heater blower then looked in the car and i had the same coming from the center speaker grill

I panicked and turned the engine off and disconnected the battery i then had a quick sniff around but could not smell burning of any kind so im thinking that it was steam

it continued for about 5 minutes and then eventually stopped

Could this be trapped water somewhere im wanting to get the car on the road this year so want to find out what it is

Guess: the flapped drains in the bulkhead are blocked. This allows a swimming pool to form under the windscreen and when deep enough, or cornering; causes water to be ingested into the heater inlet. When this happens you get more condensation/steam as you turn up the heat and fan speed. If so, then tear off the small flaps, as these allow the drains to become blocked with small leaves etc.

mmm i took the fan vent/protector off and there was water beneath the fan in the bulkhead should i just let he engine run to dry it out

my fan is not working missing relay and fuses for fan and aircon so there may be a problem..i do have a relay and fuses so may just have to refit and see what happens worried about causing a fire though or would the fuse just blow

Fuses should blow.
Could try, without the fuse a multimter on the fuse out contact and earth. If its a dead short, dont power it up!
