Heater flap box replacement

I am in the process of replacing the heater flap boxes at the back of the car and want to know if I should bit the bullet and use Porsche parts or get some patent parts .... I have been warned that the patent parts will only last a few years and there internal shape is different (cheap) allowing air to pass through even when they are meant to be closed.... What have people used in the past ..? Any advice welcome.

I will NOT cook this summer....

The genuine Porsche item is really expensive and offers no significant advantage over the clone parts. These items in my opinion deserve much better treatment from owners and workshops and then they might actually work and last longer, their lif is very hard . If you are doing this job yourself be careful you don't snap of the tiny retaining studs. Give them plenty of penetrating oil a few days previous to the job.

I did mine last years - parts from Porsch-apart

I needed to buy cable sheaves as well as they were rusted to the flaps.

Make sure you've got some goggles its a fiddly job and the rust drops in your eyes. - but worth it.

I ended up snapping the cable so imrovised to re-lengthen the cables (see picture)

Flaps were £143 (for the pair) inc post and VAT
The cable sheaves were £27 (for the pair) inc post and VAT

Good Luck

Well got them off ok, no broken studs [:D].. New ones have arrived from Type-911 and they look as good as proper Porsche parts unliek ones I've seen at the last auto jumble I went to... so time to start putting things back together and have a heater I can turn both on and off...

Removed mine and had them shot blasted with aluminium oxide?. by a local company.Superb finish but with pinholes so then epoxy resin coated them and double enamelled them.New heater cables and sheaths(one or the other may require shortening) fitted and now everything works perfectly.
