Hi Guys

Please can somebody tell me , what controls the cables that are attached to the flapper boxes on a 89 Carrera , as I had new flapper boxes fitted and since then the de-mister vents get red hot

The car has the temp control between the seats and hasn't got the levers

Many thanks

Mike

Mike
Yours is the electric control type. From memory the centre controller has the cables attached and is given feedback via the temp sensor. This is mounted above the interior mirror (looks like black rubber tube approx. 25mm long)
I would guess either the sensor has failed or the centre controller, think most likely is the centre controller
Will check in Bentley manual to see if they detail checks etc, will copy and bring to Evenley on Monday.
Buy a Speedster you get levers-cold,leaks but great fun[:)]

Hi Mike
First check that the flapper boxes are shut they are controlled from the control unit between the seats,

remove the front rubber gaiter and see if the control rod has come off, this connects drive motor to the cables,

Report back.

Charles

Charles , I have taken of the rubber , had a look inside and the rod is still attached ,tried to move the lever but its solid , should this be easy to move or is it stiff

Mike

Hi
The rod + lever only moves when you turn the heat control knob between the seats Ing on.

report back.

Charles . just been in the car , turned on the ing , turned the temp switch right up and the lever moves back very slowly , so its working , so I guess the next thing to do ,is get it up in air and check to see if the cables are moving , don't forget this has new flapper boxes fitted a couple of months ago

Regards

Mike

Many thanks Charles for you help. its going on the ramp on Thursday , I will sit in the car and get the cables checked

I will keep you posted

Mike

Just to clarify, when the flapper box vents are open = no heat, when they are shut = heat, so with knob fully anticlockwise ie; full cold when you look underneath vents should be open as hot air discharges to atmosphere, I suppose someone could have adjusted the cables wrong when new boxes were fitted?

No T911UK is correct. Vents open to dump heat to outside and not channeled through to car.

OK got you

Many thanks , thanks for all your help to everyone

Right had it up on the ramp today , Sat in the car and worked the temp Switch while a friend was underneath , and the problem is the cable on one side (n/s/r) its sticking and not fully doing its job SO new cables on order, might as well do both sides

Thanks for all help on this Chaps

Mike

That Mike is where the problem lies,if you don't use something on a regular basis it seizes and won't work properly when you need it,especially when its old[:D]
