Heater on constantly - Newbie alert ! !

Hi, I joined a while back when I purchased an '83 944. That deal fell flat on it's face and I've been hunting since, I have now purchased an 88 944s, guards red, 127k on the clock. - enough about me and the porker, on to my question.
The heater is constantly blowing hot air, I traced the vac pipes and found the heater control valve at the back of the engine works when you suck on the pipe to it and then the air in the car cools but I cannot get the heat control knob to do anything, even when it's set to cold there's hot air coming out the vents.
I can get one of the vac valves on the side of the heater to click when I press the recirc button but cannot get the other one to click.
The wiring diagram shows an internal temp sensor in the circuit but I have no idea where it is, my thoughts at the moment are either heat control knob not working or internal temp sensor not working. Do you guys have any other ideas of what it could be and how I can check.
thanks in advance.
Phil

Wierd how we seem to have had about half a dozen threads about this in the past month [&:] - what is happening with all the heater systems?

The little blighter should only be around a £ from a Porsche Centre. Or, considerably more on e-bay. []

Please, do remove the fuse for the glovebox light before you pull the glovebox liner out. This is a really simple job to do, and you can just tape up the little rod that moves the hot/cold to the servo as a temporary fix.

what is happening with all the heater systems?

At a guess, we've had 6 months without using anything but cold. Now we get in the car and turn the heat up on these cold mornings and the brittle clip breaks. How do I know? Feet are sooo hot.....[:D]

Cheers guys, very useful, I'll check that little clip thingy in the morning now I know where it is.

Ok, the clip is fine, I tool the vac valve out and could make it work when 12v applied, I've joined the 2 vac pipes together as a temporary measure to get cool air. I am fairly certain it's the heater control switch on the dash that's the problem. just waiting for one to come up on Ebay.

just waiting for one to come up on Ebay.

Don't be afraid to call a Porsche Centre, Exeter are very good with parts for our cars. They are often surprisingly cheap, or mind-blowingly expensive, but worth a try.

Mine was stuck on full heat, and it was down to one of the servo motors - the one connected to the famous plastic clip. This seemed to stop other bits from functioning - the vacuum valve etc.
I know of it happening on one other car. I took it apart and ran the motor direct off of a battery, which freed it up, it then worked fine. There is a good problem solving section in the workshop manual on diagnosing problems with those.

Lo, Is the fuse for the glovebox light easily found and readily marked up

Yes, as long as the fuebox lid still has the index sheet on the underside. It lists all the fuses and where they are

My 1991 S2 Cabrio heater fan stays on slow even when rotary switch is in off position - are they all like that?
The rotary switch has a lot of side to side slop but seems to work through all speeds I did wonder if it was 1 digit misaligned hence stayed on in off position? It does go to positive stop when turned in both directions but fan can be heard as soon as key in auxilary position?

Anyone help please?
