Heater problem

Hi,
I can't seem to switch off my heating.
I've set the dial to Zero and tried various configurations of the heater setttings, but it still blows out hot air.

Any ideas pls?

hi amo, whan you turn off the dial does the little motots in the foot wells stop?
if they do then your pron=blem is the heater boxes not closing, which is what is probley happening .
start the car and get some one to sit in it and if you look under the left or right hand side towards the under side of rear seats you will see the heater boxes, get the person in the car to turn on the heater and the cables should move the flaps on the boxes, if not then that is the cause.

My guess is the heater control valve on that side of the car is siezed partially closed or the return spring that opens the valve has failed. Peer under the rear of the car and see if both valves are open e.g.allowing hot air to escape when control is set to 0. A crude system but if maintained will work OK. As stated by J50 the heating usually fails to the no hot air mode. I hope this post is not too much hot air!

Exactly the same as my car, and yes the heater control valve is stuck in the 'closed' position thus letting all the hot air from the heat exchanger in to the cabin.

I just opened this when is was fitting my new 9 X 16 rear wheels / tyres. I spoke to Steve from Jaz when he was in Stratford for the Tour Britannia, and he explained it was an 'easy' job to remove and replace with a new part. The cable that controls the valve is another story - see Bones post on the SC forum if I recall correctly.

A winter project coming up.

I don't suppose anyone has any pics or could be a bit more descriptive about where to look - last time I worked on a car was my Cooper S when I was a kid so a bit rusty (Nice Mr Northway normally does my car but I was hoping to avoid the trip!)

Take N/S rear wheel off follow heat exchanger flexible ducting from front of heat ex is joined to the heater control valve. Jubilee clip for ducting and 3X 5mm nuts holding valve to body of car. 1/4 drive ratchet with 8mm socket will do the trick, over a pit is ideal. Valve is about £50.
