Heater temperature problem

Hi, I am a newbie having bought a 993 Carrera 4 just over 2 months ago. Since the air con has been a bit erratic I thought I would run the slow speed fan test. I found that neither the air con nor the oil cooler fans run in slow mode. Fortunately my car is under warranty so that should be fixed.

My question is this. The heater controls seem very sensitive. A small change in the temperate control can turn the blower for cold air to hot air and the temperature is nothing like that corresponding to the dial. Is this normal? I assumed that you should be able to just set a temperature and leave it there.

Other than that, I love the car and wish I had bought it years ago!

Thanks for that Maurice.

The car is going in on Friday to sort out the fans so I'll get them to take a look at the heater problem at the same time. May as well make full use of the warranty period.

The fans have a big resistor fitted near the motors for the slow speed. They are exposed to the atmosphere and are a common problem. £1 to 1p that's the problem.

Thanks Maurice and Richard for your advice.

It turns out that both fan resistors were defective and the fan behind the CPU. In addition the main air-con switch and temperature control were not working properly either. Looks like it should all be repaired in time for the weekend. Hopefully it will be sunny [:D]

Well, it seems nothing is ever as simple as it appears. Whilst the air con now works correctly, the two switches that turn it on and boost the air con are defective. When depressed rather than the bright yellow glow they used to have they now are so dim that it is almost impossible to see whether they are on or off even at night!

It seems that the garage providing the warranty did not want to replace the front panel as this costs £900 so instead they have fond some switches from another car which clearly are not up to the job.

Also the light in the ash tray no longer works, nor the light on the cigarette lighter.

Also can someone confirm the colour of the switch lights of the air con lights? I thought that the on/off button glowed yellow and the boost green. Mine both seems to be yellow now.

Please help!
