heater valves

All of the other replies are fine but if you need to replace them as evetually they do sieze solid and the heating is then very poor indeed.
To minimise the shearing of the 6mm nuts that hold them on you need to remove th engine and gearbox to get maximum angle of attack.
If they do shear it will be difficult to weld studs back on so people tend to drill out the stud and use a self tapping screw.
My advice is to wait until the engine and gearbox are removed for another reason and then tackle it then.

Check all fuses, even if they aren't blown replace them or give them a wiggle in the holder
Check the main blower in the engine bay is working
Check they are actually in there
Check they do actually work, either remove them and test on a bench or rig up a direct supply
Check the heater control unit, they do fail and I'm not sure how repairable they are
hi there i have a 3.2 1988 and the heater blowers in the footwells dont come please help
Note that there are fuses located in the wiring right by the blowers themselves - 10A if memory serves correctly. These were later 'blade' fuses on my 88 car.
I had to replace one of my blowers which physically appeared OK - i.e. spindle turned freely, no obvious signs of damage. Fuse was blown but blew again, following replacement, immediately power was applied to the blower. Replaced the blower with a new one and problem has not re-occurred.
