HEATEXCHANGERS 3.2 ??

Bought a set of heatexchangers last month from ebay (turned out they were from Porsca-part who I use quite regularly) almost brand new, original Porsche Part No 930.211.029.01 these were labelled as SC/Turbo excangers-1983, when the time has come to see how they fit it turns out they from a 3.2 (SC heat exchangers are 930.211.025.01), where they marry up to the engine at the exhaust ports these exchangers have a 6mm lip that stands proud of the flange where the gasket should sit flush, I have contacted Porsca-part and they assure me they came from a 3.0 SC, they don't have a problem taking them back, however the problem will be getting a set as good for the money.
I wondered if any of you know if it is possible to just cut the lip off so they will sit flush, are there any other real differences other than this lip.

Thanks

I saw those when they were on eBay and thought to myself that SC ones were different, from memory the turbo & 3.2 ones had thicker flanges, but seeing as I wasn't buying didn't take it any further. I wouldn't mess around reducing the flange - it could trigger other problems with compatibility and ultimately render your HEXs useless. My preferred route would be to take the refund and keep shopping.

If I were in your shoes Nick I'd take the opportunity to unleash some cheap bhp. Get the refund and buy some early HEs and lose all the heavy, power sapping cross-pipe paraphanalia. If you don't drive a lot in winter you don't need expensive SSIs, the header lengths are just as well designed as to make no difference. You'll need a different exhaust box and few oil pipes too, perhaps you can tell Bert to hold the order till you make up your mind what to do.

Unfortunately I've got a new rear muffler and sports pre silencer, gaskets and the lot so it means I would have to sell all of those, never mind. Been back onto Bert and I was surprised to see I can get two new galvernised heat exchangers for less than £100 more than I paid for the two I have so I think thats what I'll do, does'nt make much sense to try and alter them.

Thanks again
