Heating - footwell fans

My two footwell fans run all the time even when the control is set at 0 and the relay in the engine compartment removed. The documentation that came with the car shows that there was a problem with the fans in the past that required a new relay which I assume was replaced. I checked the footwell motors and note that there is a spade fuse wired into each feed wire which seems odd as I don't think spade fuses were used in 1988.

Also...
Tried to remove the headlight to replace the unit as the reflective coating is poor. Coloured bezel screw came out, main screw is cross threaded (no I'm not turning the beam adjusters!) Any idea how to get the unit off? I was thinking of carefully breaking the glass and pushing the screw from behing until it bites.

Hi, sorry I can't give advice about the cross-headed screw but just some advice for when you're ready to put the new unit in.... Apart from taking apart my headlamps this weekend (yes, yes, I did turn the beam alignment screws as well!), I also took apart the rear lights to clean them inside. When I tried to screw them back onto the housing I almost cross-threaded the screw in the housing fixture..... so I put a bit of vaseline on the screw threads and tried again - easy and quick getting the screws back in and they went in tight too. I had a similar problem with the headlamp screws being reluctant to screw back in so did the same there and it worked a treat.

Just thought that might at least help prevent you repeating the same mistake of whoever cross-threaded yours previously. [:)]
