Heating packed up

Hi

I have a 981 Cayman on 29K +mls.

My heating has packed up.

My garage says thermostats on the model are inclined to "seize up".

Anyone familiar with this problem who has suggested remedy?

It does sound like a temperature sensor-related problem. If you have climate control it could be that the cabin temperature sensor has failed.

The simplest and most cost-effective way to locate the source of your problem is to get a diagnostic check which will require a PIWIS analyser or equivalent.

Is it the heater or the fan that circulates the hot air? Sticky fans are not unknown on the 981. Suggest you check this out first.

......And it's a really easy fix. Is the fan running?

 
Good call to check that the fan is working before looking elsewhere Guy. It’s quite common on the 9X1 series cars for the fan to seize, especially if the car’s been standing outside for a while. If you remove the under-bonnet cabin air filter you should be able to reach in to see if you can free it up.
