Heating/Ventilation Problem

Since purchasing my Porsche 911 the heating on the drivers side pumps hot air to the footwell and window demister even though the heating dial is on 0 and the flaps on the dashboard are set correctly, this is very frustrating as the cabin gets very hot (unbearable in the summer month) it only affects the driver's side and not the passenger side, does anyone have any ideas?

Sounds like it. One of my heater flaps stuck a bit a few weeks ago and it kept heating one side of the car. I just cleaned it with a wire brush and squirted WD40 on it. It's worked fine since.

I had the same problem on the passenger side a few weeks ago, which I only noticed when my wife was driving (which doesn't happen very often!)

The passenger side heater control flap behind/above the engine has stuck partially open, the drivers side was shut fine. I simply pushed the flap closed, anticipating replacing both valves over the winter.

Thanks Geoff and to everyone for the great advice, I know what I'll be doing on Sunday!

The flaps have to be open not to allow the hot air into the car. The flaps have to be closed so that the heat does enter the car.

My 3.2 didn't work too well when I first got him and after a few hours trying to put it right I found that someone had put cable ties around the heater cable to the handbrake cable next to the gearbox. Removing the ties solved the problem although I did replace the heater cable as it had been joined near the flap.

I was under the impression that this can also be caused by the fans in the footwells, one on each side, being nadgered. This is the case with mine, where the flaps at the rear open and close correctly, but you still get some residual heat coming down one side of the car.

Only if said fans/motors were on fire [:D]

With my 3.2 carrera sport coupe I have had the blower motor in the engine bay burn out and stink the car out with smoke. I thought the engine was on fire and ran out to the rear of the car with a fire extuingisher. Needless to say people walking by looked at me as though I was insane. It was a busy saturday afternoon in the centre of town.
