Heating, ventilation system controls

Hi Philip, the heating and ventilation can be confusing, the way I see it the cold and hot systems are separate and not combined as we are used to elsewhere. Basically you can run both systems at the same time, or chose one. You are probably most familiar with the fresh air controls, up until now, using the top two levers in the dash.

The hot system is the third dash lever with the red knob, combined with the centre heat control between the seats. This controls the separate hot air blowers behind the front wheel arch covers and another over the engine to deliver the hot air.

Try the systems individually and see how you get on. I assume any issues you may find will be related to the hot side of things. There are a couple of common faults regarding the hot system so let us know how you get on and you should get lots of advice from the Forum community.

(I see you have possibly inadvertently posted this thread twice so I'll remove the second thread this evening)

Thanks Steve,

Really helpful, I don't think there is a fault with the car, just its owner!

I posted first, But I showed up as a guest, think I must have put in the wrong username.

Many thanks

Philip

Hi Philip, Unfortunately there is a bug that is hopefully being sorted soon regarding the 'Guest of the Club' appearing, when in fact you are a member (new member). Please e-mail support[at]porscheclubgb.com with your membership number asking for 'PCGB Member' to replace 'Guest of the Club'. Any problems e-mail me 911carrera32[at]porscheclubgb.com and I'll follow it up.

May I wish you a belated welcome to the Club and Carrera 3.2 ownership.

Hi all,

I picked up my 88, 911 targa, in September and have enjoyed some great drives in this year's beautiful Indian summer. Last night I went for dinner with the Mrs and obviously had to turn on the heating. I didn't seem to be able to get it to work properly. Am I right in saying the central vents on the dash are cool air only, the hot air only coming out at the side and windscreen outlets? also, if I have the centre console heating up high does it make a difference if I have the fresh air fan on at the same time? sorry feel a bit stupid asking, but it doesn't appear to be so straight forward.

many thanks

Philip

Philip,

Perhaps this is helpful.

I spent years not understanding the climate controls as my owners manual is German and found this English version.

Cheers,

I always found with my 3.2 if heating and fresh are both used together it caused condensation. So I always turned fresh air controls to off in winter. If the cabin is not getting warm enough check the control valves they often seize and so dump all that precious hot air outside!
