Heavy Clutch

Hi,

This a stupid question I know but is there a knack to the clutch use on a 993?[X(] This is my first manual Porsche (Last one was a tip) and the clutch just seems so heavy and awkward compared to a standard car (My other car is a Passat TDI) Things are fine through the gears but pulling away just makes me nervous[&:] I just can't seem to balance it right is this a common problem for us newbies? or do I need a new clutch or does it need adjustment? she has just been serviced and road tested but nothing was mentioned. Can't get used to 6 forward gears either!![8|]

Perhaps practice makes perfect[:D]

Regards

Pete

I could be wrong but sounds as if will very shortly require a new clutch. The clutch on the 993 is light and easy to use.

Best part of £1k[]

Sadly agree , does it feel like its ridging as u depress it ??? These clutches should nt be so heavy are normally a delight . If u were nt at the Posh end of Herts u cud come and feel one of mine ...........i am in a little place called Shenley .........

Vic that is very kind of you I have only had the car 48hrs!! So perhaps I am over re-acting a little and just need time to get used to the way the clutch operates (i.e hydraulic & not cable) I am about an hour from you (Bishops Stortford) but I might take up your offer later in the week if thats ok. The car came from Paul Stephens and has an excellent warranty with it so I don't expect any probs but it would be nice to compare for my own piece of mind and I would like your opinion. I will email you ref: mobile no's etc.

In answer to your question it does not ridge as I depress it but it bites right at the top is this correct? I have tried the usual regarding slipping but she does not slip.

Thanks Again

Hi Pete

The earlier cars are somewhat stiffer in clutch action .... parts were changed for '95. But give yourself time to adjust, the clutch feel is different to anything else I've driven.

Thanks Maurice,

I will do as you say she has done 122K but had a clutch and slave cylinder at 50K what parts were changed for '95? If she needs a clutch (Under warranty[:)]) what do you recommend?

Regards

Pete

Hi Pete, as a newbie to the 993 fold as well , I have found the clutch rather different to the 944 to say the least, my car had a new clutch put in as part of the deal and does feel quite light but awkard at the moment but that is down to me.

200 miles done so far - Ive not got to 5,000 revs yet [:)]

Hi,

Yes I have that feeling "is it down to me" my previous Porsche was a 964 tip so no clutch but the Porsche before that was a 944S, I guess I'm just unsure as its a different car as a matter of interest what was the clutch like before its replacement? and do you struggle at the mo to pull away smoothly in first? also this 6th gear thing takes some getting used to[:)]

Perhaps we can compare notes on this 993 thing[:D][:D]

Pete

If it any consolation, I drove a 996 cab 4 and found the clutch very heavy compared to that of my Boxster.

I suggest that you persevere and see how you get on.

Hope all goes well - enjoy the car.

Hi All,

Good news Paul Stephens has agreed to further investigation re: heavy clutch and other minor issues under his warranty policy so hopefully all should be sorted next week. Just goes to prove that I made the right choice purchasing my car from him nothing seems to be to much trouble he even calls you back!!! now thats a novelty for a trader[:D]

Will post again when all is fixed thanks to all for there input
