Heavy steering

Hi, steering feels heavy for some reason in comparrison to a 964. It's a C4 so I didn't know if that makes a difference?? Have checked tyre pressures tks

PS Also was unsure if the multi link
suspension setup made the feel heavy thou I had it all replaced by centre gravity

I'm all good in that department I have 17' cup 2 alloys and p zeros. I recently bought new refurbed wheels to improve handling and as I felt the fake turbo twists may have been heavy. Maybe it's me but a 964 c2 I drove was way lighter

I used to have a 964 C2 and have a 993 C2. There was a period of overlap (both on 17" cup 2s and both on Continentals) and I never thought the 993 felt any heavier when jumping between cars. Both felt light. I've never driven a C4 so don't know if that is what is causing the effect you describe.

Ian.

Maybe I shud get it looked at or maybe it's just me. I guess there cud be something not quite right with the power steering. Other than that it's perfect although the clutch is dipping a bit. Clutch life 40k miles???

I take it that you've checked the steering fluid level? Steering rack seals are prone to fail so you may be running without fluid but the noise from the pump would soon alert you to that. I don't think there's anything in the steering rack that can fail to cause heavy steering but I stand to be corrected on that one.

Steering weight is a very subjective thing David but it might just be down to the two wheel drive / four wheel drive difference. Most four wheel drives do feel heavier than their two wheel drive counterparts.

I suppose the question is, did it seem OK before you drove the 964? If so then it'll seem fine in again in a day or so. My 993 C4 steeering isn't particularly heavy but after I've driven my wife's Fiat 500 it feels like I've got two flat tyres. However within a few miles I'm fine with it again.

Typical clutch wear is difficult to answer, I got 85,000 or so out of my first one and I'm not particularly delicate with it, although not a hugh amount of that was town driving. But I have seen reports of people getting less than 40,000.

Hi Clyde, it has always felt the same tbh and at speed it's fine it's at low speeds it feels heavy. I'll check the fluid level today. I take it it's easy to locate and check???

Get down the Gym. TBS mine is heavier than my other cars Merc ML and Audi TT but lovely feel and confidence in placing exactly where I want it to go. Had my rack recoditioned a few years ago and the weight was the same.

Sure John, isn't the steering on an Audi TT and a merchant ML built for girls to drive anyhow?? ;-) car all good really

My steering actually felt slightly heavier after the rack was reconditioned. I figured that was the new seals creating a bit more drag. I was on holiday while it was getting done and wasn't driving any other car, so it couldn't have been that I'd become accustomed to the feel of another car.
