Heel & toeing

As I like to think that I'm an as yet undiscovered potential world motor racing champion, I like to heel and toe whenever I can - even my Jaguar X Type diesel responds well to this. However I find that the pedal layout in my lhd 964 mean that heel and toeing are out of the question. Is this typical for a lhd 964 or is my pedal alignment wrong? I suspect its a different kettle of fish for rhd cars.
 
Not uncommon for the pedal heights to be less than optimal for H &T.
On my first LHD 964 RS, a previous owner had screwed another throttle pedal on top of the existing one! It worked perfectly. My second LHD RS car was awful when I bought it, I thus went out and bought a pedal and carefully mounted it on top of the existing one, whilst it improved the situation hugely, it wasn't as good as my first car.
After some months I had the clutch replaced (which meant the engine was removed) which in turn meant the throttle cable/linkage was disturbed. When I got the car back the pedal heights were perfect !!
My susequent 993 RS required no such mods and a further 964RS again needed no mods.
I currently have a 964 C2 RHD and the pedals are nearly (95%) at their optimum.
I was told the pedals are themselves are adjustable but I've yet to meet any independant who wanted to take the job on. Not sure if this is because it's fiddly/timeconsuming.
Is there a big difference in heights between your pedals ?

On my LHD 3.2 911 I could never see how you could H&T with the pedal setup

On the first drive of my RHD 993 it was almost natural to do it, as the pedal heights were perfect

Carrera 3.2 pedal layouts make H & T very hard, but it can be done - I had to turn my foot almost 90 degrees.

From memory 964's are pretty similar. Later cars are more accommodating.
 
Thank god it's not just me.
I find it impossible with my 964 LHD C2.
Even my instructor at Bedford found it totally impractical.

I'm looking at adding an aftermarket throttle pedal on top of the existing one.
 
The early cars are a doddle James. The difference between my 73 and a 993 is the difference between me being to do it in my sleep and not being able to do it at all.

Had another look at mine and its the actual pedal heights that are wrong - the accelerator pedal sits so much lower than the brake pedal. I'll investigate the idea of fitting an extra pedal carefully on top of the existing accelerator pedal. However, I'm going to give the car a good check over this week (first track day at Knockhill next weekend) and I'll check if its possible to 'adjust' the height of the accelerator pedal. Bet Schumacher never has this grief...

Just a note but, I wouldn't worry too much about the static heights of the pedals. When you H & T whilst actually driving, especially on the track, the brake pedal will be a lot lower as you will be applying the brakes at the time. Unlike my early 911 which is perfect for H & T, I thought I was going to have to mod the pedal on my Crossfire when I first sat in it in the showroom, but its not actually a problem on the road or track.

good point ! i didnt have a problem until i had new discs and pads fitted, then the brake pedal didnt go so far to the floor...
 
Keith - your DIY extender is Superb [:D]

I've always found the S2 a bit of a bugg4r to H&T ~ trickier than any other car I've driven in fact. This may well provide the solution..... [8D]
 
ta mik, must be cos your a Jock like myself.....bit tongue in cheek though! i just find some Porsche owners arent happy unless they are spending big money on their car, having said that ive seen a lot of cars at the shows with nice ali parts fitted , momo steering wheels etc, but with bald tyres ..fur coat ,no knickers...

The thing is when I bolted a wooden block to my SC pedal it needed to be about 20mm thick to
bring it up to the right level.
I suppose it depends on the individual cars pedal positions but that particular pedal cover looks a bit
thin to make enough difference!
