Hello 944 Owners

[:D]

Hello all. Bought my first Porsche ( 944 S2 Guards Red, 92 K, 127K , 968 Wheels from Hartech ) about 8 months ago, have just joined Porsche GB and smile everytime I get in my motor which is used 7 days a week around the sunny !! roads of Preston, Lancs.

Know little about the mechanical aspect of cars, love the car to bits , no problems at all so far in the 7000 miles covered other than dam annoying squeaky brakes which have been looked at and greased but are still whining when braking and at low speed.

Thinks the car looks great, gets many admiring glances and intend to own the car for years through thick and thin.

Here's to many postings.

Cheers
Chris

Hi Chris,

Welcome to the forum.

Squeeky brakes can be a pain. Mine started doing it some months ago, for no obvious reason, and then stopped squeeking again just as quickly.

Stick with it, the squeek may just go.

Hi John Good Evening.

Yep here's to the squeaking brakes going in time. Looking forward to having discussions with like minded individuals but keeping quiet when things get technical !. Just as a footnote should I get the car serviced through an OPC or use Hartech ( u may have heard of them ) who sold me the car and seem reasonable on cost and their knowledge seems top class.

Cheers

From what i have hear Hartech are very good, if i was a bit closer then thats who i would go too, in many ways they will actually be better than some OPCs as the OPC mainly deal with 996s, tractors and cut & blow-dry cars.. [:D] Change the oil, and plug it into a computer for 10mins go have a cup of coffee job done. Its a real pain in the btm, as the OPCs are given an amount of time to carry out a service on each model, the 944T i think is around 4 hours the 996t is about 1.5hrs according to Porsche, the problem with this is the the labour rates must increase so that they can still make money in the 1.5hr service. i.e. £80/hr but if the service on the 996 was 4hrs labour rates would prob still be £40-£50/h, hence why some (should be all) OPCs will give good discounts on labour for older cars.

Hi Chris, you should have a very good car if bought from Hartech. I have heard nothing but praise about them and I too would use them for all my servicing if they were a bit closer. Barry knows all there is to know about 944 [:)] I may use them anyway next time I need something major doing as their rates are good and if you combine a few things at the same time they start to knock more money off [:D]

Your car is one of a very few that came on a K plate. You may be lucky and have an S2 SE as Porsche Cars GB made the last 14 as a special edition with some extra goodies. If it is, then it will have an SE badge on the back, a 3 spoke 'clubsport' steering wheel, multi adjustable suspension with a helper spring on the rear shocks and finally they uprated the engine by 15 bhp using a different chip in the engine. I've only ever seen one (it was red)

Thanks Paul and Fat_Boy_Slim for your comments re Hartech, I have had little dealings with them , even though I bought the car off them it went something like ' Your Car is a Nissan , good nick but worth 20% of what u paid for it 12 months ago, our 944 is £9995, no money off and do u want a test drive ?, had a drive , small haggle and picked it up 2 weeks later with the ' C Major Service and 964 Wheels ' [:D] .

Weather nice for a change in Lancs , me and the girlfriend tried to get the sunroof off, 30 secs, spent about an hour getting it back on !!, knew I should have waited for a CAB to come along.

Many Thanks .
Chris

Sorry slim_boy_fat , got it nearly right ! oh and Paul that S2 SE sounds great , mine it just the SE so you've seen 1 more than me .

Hi Chris,
My breaks squeek at odd times, just turn up your stereo hehe. Was the car mint with lots of extras for £10k?

Hi Andiko , yep Ive resorted to turning the stereo up loud !, yeah the car is pretty mint but extra's just their major service and new 968 18 inch alloys basically, car seemed a little pricy but when I drove it my head went into neutral and my wallet opened !!.

I could have purchased at £8995 but with standard wheels and no C Service and I thought well bollox to it , I know nothing mechanical about motors and a C Service is about £400 ish and the 968 wheels where already on so it seemed rude to have them take them off !!

S2 rocks.
Work at a Mazda Dealer , still prefer my car to the pretty good RX8 , oh and work for Kia & Hyundai ( enough said !! )

Chris, stay well away from OPC's - as slim boy fat says, they are very expensive, and they will find all sorts of things they want to put right on your car unnecessarily!

Hartech are the people for 944/68 in your area without a doubt. I use them, and I live in Reading! Granted, I did have them do all my belts/chain etc. as well as a C service. The report they do helps you budget for likely future maintenance too. Their prices are very good also - I spent 1200 quid with them recently, for work that would have cost nearer 2k at my usual specialist.

Good choice of car anyway (and wheels [;)])

Cheers,
Dave

[;)] Cheers Dave its sounds like Hartech are definately the guys to use and its good to hear from someone who has used them for servicing etc as I want the car kept in tip top condition but dont fancy being ripped off by Main Dealer OPC .

Went into Porsche in Reading when down to c a mate about 2 months ago and ended up paying £104 for some mats for the 944 ! Enough said really.

Yep, a lot of the 968 guys are using Hartech now, no matter where they live. Given that 968's are relatively few and far between, it is encouraging to turn up at a specialist and see 5 other customer's 968's there! I have asked other specialists who say they see one every year or two! The place is always stacked with 944s too, so you know that they know what they are doing with your car.

OPC's are nice places to snoop around, and one day I would like to just wander in and spec up my dream car.....but until then they won't be getting much business from me!
