hello,a question about upgrades

got an 01 tt love it,but since the warranty has now expired I am thinking of some minor upgrades along the lines of new recirculation valves,an exhaust header and a ecu re-mapping.Apparently this would give 480-520bhp .
HAs nayone had any experience of any of these ,if so hows it been in terms of driveability, reliability .Any feedback would be most appreciated.

gaxor is right rennlist are the boys....but they do seem to go a little over the top, I even read one thread about nitro !!!!!!! One of the guys on Pistonheads is also upgrading shortly, so it worth looking there.
With the simply frightening costs of engine replacement, I am avoiding any chip boost upgrade mods, but I have had a 100 cell exhaust upgrade which adds 21 bhp & similar torque, this also makes the turbos spin up quicker for a slightly better drive & it increases inter-action with the car due to greater engine noise ! These are about £3500, so very expensive, but I purchased mine second hand & am very pleased with it, but in honesty I don't think I would pay full list new price. As the saying goes "nice but NOT that nice" !

cheers grant, those american forums are mad, loads of guys with 600bhp monsters.Intrigued as to why you're avoiding the chip upgrade.Ive been quoted £3800 for an exhaust an chip upgrade which will give about 500bhp.MOst others are in the region of £5000.
ONe guy reckons he's done 12 chip updates and had no issues with any of them.

Frank, from what I have seen most chips simply re-map the engine electronics to increase boost pressure & raise the rev limiter. Both greatly increase the stresses put on the engine & reduce it's reliabilty some where down the line, all be it at higher miles. I think it will also reduce the re-sale value of the car, unless you keep it quiet !!
Also the standard TT is so bl**dy quick anyway you are up to "hello officer" speeds too quickly anyway ! Having said this, I do think the car is too quiet, for a sports car, hence the exhaust.
But hey it's only money & it saves going to the gym for the large neck muscle look, let me know if you take the plunge !!!

Grant, those were my fears ,I have now decided its not worth it..not only is it risky ,but if its good what would I ever have to look forward to in cars ? Ive got an m6 on order and even with 500bhp im sure it would seem tortoise like after a tt with 510 bhp.[:D]

Franki68, I think you wise not to do the maxpower thing. An M6 next eh, complete with screaming V10 sounds like a good choice.
Incidentaly we could have just the number plate for you...........
M6 TOP, we had it on an MG (reads MG TOP witha small tweek !!!) but have kept it on retention for when the new 6 series came out, to maximise our return!
Let me know if this is of interest, when does the new toy arrive, I thought they weren't out untill the end of 2005/06 ?

guessing at 2005,the dealers don't seem to know much.
got my own plate so no interest in the your offer thanks.
I believe the 997 is just really a facelift of the 996 and the proper new turbo will be out 2006-7 so the plan is my tt until 2005 ,a couple of years with the m6 and then back to a Porsche turbo.
