Hello/advice/wanted

3 threads in one, thought I'd say hello, I'm Stuart, from Aberdeen and just sold my 2.8 capri, fancy a change and thinking about a 944, hence why I'm here.

Interested on which model people recommend to get, or stay away from. Would prefer a manual for example, but see a few auto's kicking around, are they any good or should I stick with manual. What about s2 versus original style? Is the 3litre a lot better than 2.7 or is it 6 and two 3's?

Went to see one today, but it was a no go, too much crusty areas, sills, wings and the paint was far from good. So the hunt continues.

Anyway any recommended specialists to buy/look for one (in Scotland) or any enthusiasts on here got or know of one for sale?

Cheers

Hello Stuart,

I used to have a manual S2 which I thought was a great car, good torquey engine and fun to drive, very well built.
That's the only model I've driven so can't really comment on the others, but I think the S2 is considered to be the better all rounder, and looks good with a slightly different front from the 2.7.
If I was you I'd head to the Lairhillock on Thursday Feb 6th where the local Porsche club meet up, and you might see a couple weather permitting.
If you go into the bar anytime after 8 you should be able to meet some friendly members, who I'm pretty sure would be happy to give you loads of free advice.

Cheers,
Sandy

Ask on the 944 forum. I would say the S2 is the best version although I may be slightly biased.

Asking which 944 is best is a bit like do you like Tea or Coffee, Coke or Pepsi, S2 or Turbo

:)

S2 but I am biased also

You will get tons of advice on 944 section

Hi Stuart,

Just saw your thread.... I'm the Regional Organiser for PCGB for the Aberdeen area - and I run a 944 (s2). As Sandy said, why not come along to our club meet at the Lairhillock on February 6th, about 8. We're very informal and we won't pressure you to join (on your first visit!). I'm happy to talk about the cars, and there are several members who have or have had 944s. I think the most important thing is to buy the best one you can afford and to be prepared to spend a bit each year to maintain it - but if you've been running a 2.8 Capri you'll be used to that ;¬). Turbos and NA cars are very different beasts, so that will depend on how you like to drive. I don't think you'll be disappointed with either though.

Hope to see you,
Steve

hi, thanks to all those that have responded, I think i've pretty much decided I'm going to buy the best I can afford that's locally available rather than chase a particular model/colour etc. It sounds like they are all good in their own way. Being a Ford man I'm familiar with rust and my number 1 requirement is to buy one as rust free as possible, so thats my aim.

Steve I will let you know if I am able to attend nearer the time, thanks for the details, you never know, i might show up in a 944 by then!

So, I got impatient waiting on the right local car and after a 660mile round trip am now the proud owner of a 1989 994 S2. Picked it up on Friday past and it drove faultless all the way home. Got a few jobs that I'd like to do in time on it to improve the car but overall happy with it and will probably leave them until next winter, for now I just want to drive it and enjoy it.

I won't make it to the meeting @ Lairhillock next week but will join the club and try and get to the next one. Is it always the 1st Thursday in the month they are held?

Good man. Welcome to the S2 club. ( please don't tell anyone how good it is or they'll all want one )[:D][:D][:D][:D]

Yes at 8.00pm. The regulars often go earlier and get a bite to eat. The're very friendly and Steve is most helpful.
